“Volunteering is part of my DNA” says Anne-Marie Simpson, Board Chair, PIN – the People and Information Network, “volunteers do so much for the community and doing my part is important.”
Anne-Marie has been highly involved in her community throughout her life; through volunteering in preschool, school council, sports, neighbourhood and more. Learning about PIN (formerly the Volunteer Centre of Guelph Wellington), Anne-Marie shares “I become involved through my Human Resource role at Family and Children’s Services where Volunteer Services were a part of my portfolio. Christine helped with an audit process; it was really helpful, felt congruent in my role and there is a historical importance of PIN supporting the community.”
“Anne-Marie is an authentic servant leader” says Christine Oldfield, Executive Director, “her leadership as Chair of our Board of Directors has been impactful and greatly appreciated” Christine continues “Anne-Marie has a natural ability to truly listen and encourage thoughtful discussion while ensuring we continue towards our vision and mission.”
As an enthusiastic supporter of the work of PIN, Anne-Marie recalls many highlight moments, “our phenomenal ‘Time To Give’ Community Breakfasts, our Canada 150 Mural and the ability of PIN to take complex ideas and simplify so it is accessible are highlights.” says Anne-Marie, “the rebrand and launch was exciting, and I have appreciated assisting in developing the next part of the strategic planning.”

“Volunteering is one of the most powerful experiences” says Anne-Marie, “there has been flexibility in my volunteer roles and they have provided different, rich experiences which makes it so easy to give.” “I volunteer ‘wherever my world takes me’. My volunteer journey has morphed alongside my life experiences and have shifted as my life has.”
Keeping connected to her community is important to Anne-Marie and one of the integral components to her vitality. In addition to contributing to community, Anne-Marie loves spending time with her family including her 3 dogs, enjoys Zumba, Yoga and is an avid reader. In addition, Anne-Marie is an incredible baker “baking is recreation for me” says Annemarie, “it’s my creative outlet.”
