Thomas McIlwraith

Up and coming musician, 11 year old Thomas McIlwraith, can often be found at the Guelph Farmers’ Market busking, the proceeds of which he donates to the Welcome in Drop in Centre. For Thomas, this was a natural way to give to his community as he has studied music for 7 years and plays guitar, piano and the harmonica.

This volunteer experience has provided a number of highlights. Thomas met Sister Christine from the Welcome in Drop in Centre and the cherry on top was when he played Neil Young’s Heart of Gold and a group of people joined in for an impromptu sing-a-long.

“I really like to see people happy and bring a smile to people’s faces,” says Thomas, who is a new Guelphite that has been impressed by how friendly the Royal City is.

When Thomas is not busking, or at school, he enjoys hanging out with friends and neighbours and hitting the slopes for skiing. He also performs at the Joint Café’s open mic night on Tuesday evenings – be sure to check him out!

To date, Thomas has raised $220.55 for the Welcome in Drop in Centre. Thank you Thomas for sharing your musical talents and joyfulness with the folks at the Farmers Market in support of the centre’s work. The future of Guelph is in great hands with young, creative people like you!
