Virtual Volunteering

As Canada’s National Volunteer Week progresses, we hope that an increased emphasis is put on the variety of volunteer opportunities available.  Volunteering is so dynamic and can even take place from the comfort of your own home through virtual volunteering.  Virtual volunteering is remote volunteerism, often supported by smart technology.  As smart phones and laptops become more used, we are also seeing an increase in the amount of virtual volunteer opportunities available!

Virtual volunteering allows new opportunities to those:

  • with mobility limitations that cannot easily access program locations
  • without access to transportation
  • in remote areas that wish to service programs outside of their area
  • with skilled expertise in positions that do not require direct client contact
  • and more

At PIN, The People and Information Network, we’re proud to offer an array of virtual volunteer opportunities, and look forward to seeing this category continue to expand as it gains popularity.

This is part of an ongoing blog series to celebrate National Volunteer Week from April 7 – 13, 2019.

This series is generously sponsored by the Old Quebec Street Shoppes.  Located in the scenic heart of downtown Guelph, Old Quebec Street occupies a unique role in the history of the city—a role which continues to evolve with time. Part shopping centre, part office space, Old Quebec Street provides a charming and memorable experience to visitors; an experience that is intimately tied to its history.
