For Tyler, volunteering is about sharing with others

For me, volunteering is about sharing with others. I love my job, so the ability to use the technical skills I implement as an engineer at Eramosa Engineering in a volunteering capacity makes volunteering that much more fulfilling. So, when I was approached by the Canadian Cancer Society in Guelph to help develop new obstacles for their Wellington Warrior obstacle course, I jumped at the opportunity to build a water treatment-themed obstacle – a waterslide!

I also volunteer with FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) in their Lego League, which uses Lego Mindstorms robotic kits to teach programming, design and problem solving fundamentals to grade schoolers as part of an after-school competitive program. It’s hard not to match the kids’ enthusiasm when they present their projects!

Finding the time to participate in these activities can be hard; however, Eramosa has always supported its employees in sharing what they have to offer. Every employee is allotted one week of paid volunteer time during regular business hours and encouraged to help out wherever they like. The business’ social committee also arranges volunteering social outings – including tree planting and packing boxes at the food bank.

It’s important that we support the community that supports us.
