Thank you Kathryn and Chloe!

“It all began the summer before my daughter was entering Grade 9. Being such an animal lover, she contacted the Guelph Humane Society to see if she could volunteer her 40 hours for high school” Kathryn says, “however, with Chloe being under the age of 16, a parent had to be present. Since I am an animal lover as well, I was happy to be her side kick! We have enjoyed ourselves so much that we are now entering our 5th year as volunteers!”

Kathryn and her daughter Chloe have shared time together through volunteering at events, driving wildlife to rehabilitation centres, snuggling up to cats, taking dogs on our adventures and even fostering puppies. Their passion and commitment has given more than 200 hours per year to the work of the Guelph Humane Society, and, to each other.

“Since their start in May 2013, Kathryn and Chloe Roberts have gone above and beyond in so many ways. They help the staff of the Guelph Humane Society achieve our mission to make everyday special for the animals that enter our doors” says Volunteer Coordinator Gwen Preece.

“Our experience with the Guelph Humane Society is extremely rewarding. Knowing that we can make a difference in the lives of these animals gives us such joy and happiness; a sense of fulfilment.” Kathryn shares “the animals are so loyal, all they desire is to be wanted and loved and we have so much love to give them; it is hard not to bring them all home with us!”

“The staff are absolutely wonderful and such as pleasure to work with as well as the other volunteers we have met along the way.” Kathryn says, “There are many highlighted moments that we have experienced, including taking an orphaned baby gosling to Sky Raptors Foundation in Grimsby; on our visit, we were amazed to see all the different species of birds that are nursed back to health before being released to the wild. We even had the opportunity to be up close with 8 bald eagles!”

Volunteering provides an opportunity to make a difference; with animals, with people and with community. The impact of Kathryn and Chloe’s gift of time, passion and commitment has clearly made a difference in the lives of many, including theirs.

The Guelph Humane Society appreciates Kathryn and Chloe for their support, “A hero to some, an example for others; Kathryn and Chloe are incredible at everything they do.” says Gwen Preece, “thank you for being a friend for the ones who need it the most, thank you for loving the cat that knocked on your door, thank  you for being ambassadors in the community and thank you for the positive energy you share with everyone around you; thank you for being you!”
