Snow Angels are March’s Volunteers of the Month

Volunteers are the heart of the community and they are definitely the heart of the Snow Angels Program. When a big storm hits this dedicated team of 50 volunteers shovel for people in need. The service ensures that seniors and persons with disabilities are able to stay in their homes, are able to do everyday tasks and receive home care and services.
Long time Snow Angel, Khal Khaleed pictured right, has been volunteering with the program for 4 years and brings his kids along with him to shovel and have some fun in the snow. It was a natural fit for the outdoorsy family who also enjoy skating and cross country skiing. Khal says, “It’s a really great program and it’s organized well, which makes it easy to volunteer.”
The team of volunteers also include college and university students, families, and individual community members. Most of the Snow Angels are drawn to the position because they want to help someone in need, give back to the community and many even admit they like to shovel snow! They commit to helping a neighbour or two, and sometimes more, for the entire winter season, which is greatly appreciated by residents. One recipient of this volunteer service shared, “I could not have stayed in my home without the help.”
Thank you to the 50 Snow Angel Volunteers for your awesome spirit of generosity you demonstrate throughout the winter season. Your dedication and caring safeguard the health, well-being and connection to the community for people in need.
A special thank you to Frank Valeriote for sponsoring this month’s award.
