On the Record Workshop
On the Record is a public education workshop that aims to give employers and volunteer organizations an overview of the best practices around the use of police record checks in hiring. Topics covered include:
- The Police Record Checks Reform Act, a new piece of legislation passed by the Ontario legislature in December 2015
- The predictive value of police record checks as screening tools
- What type of information is disclosed at various levels of record checks in Ontario
- How non-conviction information differs from conviction information
- How to understand the results of a “positive” police record check
- When to request a police record check
- How to ensure that human resource policies and practices comply with privacy rights and human rights
Co-presented by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the John Howard Society of Ontario, this is an ideal workshop for HR professionals, employers and volunteer managers and is open to the public. We look forward to seeing there. Details are:
