On the Record Workshop

On the Record is a public education workshop that aims to give employers and volunteer organizations an overview of the best practices around the use of police record checks in hiring. Topics covered include:

  • The Police Record Checks Reform Act, a new piece of legislation passed by the Ontario legislature in December 2015
  • The predictive value of police record checks as screening tools
  • What type of information is disclosed at various levels of record checks in Ontario
  • How non-conviction information differs from conviction information
  • How to understand the results of a “positive” police record check
  • When to request a police record check
  • How to ensure that human resource policies and practices comply with privacy rights and human rights
