Eileen & Inge are Jan’s Volunteers of the Month

For over 15 years Eileen and Inge have been volunteering together at East Wellington Community Services’ New To You thrift store. Each Tuesday afternoon they arrive together and spend the afternoon as a team helping customers find incredible deals in the little shop, which is the only clothing store in Rockwood.

Eileen, a retired nurse, describes her volunteer experience as truly gratifying: “I really enjoy it. I had always had a feeling I wanted to work in a store, so this was just the right fit for me and I enjoy the interaction with the customers too. You meet a lot of nice people.”

Every week the duo accept and sort clothing donations from the community and work together to make New To You an inviting, well-organized place for people to shop. Their hard work definitely has paid off. Community members always comment on how helpful the volunteers are, and what a wonderful team Eileen and Inge make!

Volunteer coordinator, Barb Carscadden, says, “We don’t know what we would do without the support of these ladies. They are a great example of how our community is a better place thanks to the efforts of our volunteers!”
