Cyndy Moffat Forsyth was attracted to the Guelph Community Foundation because of their long-term approach. “They make Guelph a better place today and are working to ensure they are building a better Guelph for generations to come. It is the intergenerational philosophy that keeps me engaged. The charities that we provide grants to each year make an incredible impact to our citizens. The legacy we are building ensures that those charities can continue to access funds and provide services to keep Guelph a great place to live.” Cyndy says.
“Volunteering has always been an important aspect of my life. I have had the opportunity to work with so many outstanding individuals, of the years, who I otherwise would not have grown to know. These relationships and experiences have transformed who I am as a person. The time, effort and learning opportunities have enriched my life ten-fold and I am so very grateful for each and every volunteer opportunity.” Cyndy shares.
A Board Member for 2.5 years, Cyndy has provided steady, sound input and leadership. Guelph Community Foundation’s Lianne Carter Ladner says “As VP Development and Marketing at The Huntington Society of Canada, Cyndy brings a breadth of experience from the philanthropic sector.” In addition to her Board role, Cyndy leads the Grants Committee as Committee Chair, where grant applications are reviewed and grant dollars are awarded out into the community. The impact of the granting process helps kids go to camp who otherwise could not afford to go. Community grants are also awarded to charitable organizations throughout Guelph and area that help strengthen and build community.
Cyndy says “volunteering is more than knowing and understanding that there are people in your community that are in need, its about stepping up an taking action utilizing whatever skills you have to make things better for everyone. The Guelph Community Foundation has provided me with a platform to understand what is needed in my community and the opportunity to take action to address those needs in a significant lasting way.”
“For me” Cyndy reflects further, “the highlight has been contributing on a Board that has such a synergistic relationship between the board and staff. We work in partnership complimenting each other to ensure the we are building a legacy. There is a high level of trust ensuring everyone has their eyes on the mandate of the foundation: believing in community investments that last forever. I couldn’t be prouder of the work that we have done and continue to do.”

Each April, Canada celebrates volunteerism in this country through the National Volunteer Week campaign. As we celebrate the 12.7 million people who volunteer in Canada this year from April 23 – 29, let us recognize and appreciate the gifts volunteers bring to our communities, and our country, all the year through and let us reflect on how volunteers such as Cyndy have impacted the culture of Canada in its 150 years.
