A ‘Time to Give’

This morning our team is filled with thoughts of our Time to Give Breakfast originally scheduled for today.

Volunteerism is a vital resource in this country, with nearly 13 million volunteers, their contribution is valued at $55.9 billion (2017), equivalent to 2.6 per cent of GDP. It is noted that if volunteering were an industry, it would employ nearly as many people as those currently working in education. (2018 report – Conference Board of Canada and Volunteer Canada)

The hope remains that we reschedule the event for late fall, with the potential to coincide with the International Day of the Volunteer in early December. The theme this year, ‘Volunteerism and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” along the core components we had planned for, remain strong.

It seems strange not to have had our ‘Time to Give’ event this morning but the spirit of volunteerism continues to amaze and inspire me. Even through this crisis, hands on service delivery and transitioned virtual roles, volunteers remain active; volunteers are a true gift to our community.

This event is a highlight for PIN and always an enjoyable experience for guests and for our team as we celebrate volunteerism in our community.

I hope you have the opportunity to have a ‘Time to Give’. Do something that brings joy, appreciates and inspires – if you know a volunteer, please thank them, the impact of volunteers in our communities and across this country is immense and embedded into our lives.

With sincere appreciation, Kim Cusimano, Interim Executive Director
